Paris / Bad Homburg, 9. May 2023: 56 entries, 10 winners 1 special award and 1 special mention – this is the positive outcome of the PackTheFuture Award 2023. The results of the sixth edition were announced at the award ceremony at interpack in Düsseldorf (4.-10.5.2023) . The award – offered by the two associations IK Industrievereinigung Kunststoffverpackungen and ELIPSO the French Association for Plastic Packaging and Flexible Packaging – honours innovative and sustainable packaging solutions made of plastic and aims to promote and publicise the contribution of plastic packaging to climate protection, the circular economy and responsible consumption.
Plastic packaging makes the future possible
„During Corona-Crisis the consumers’ views on plastic packaging have changed dramatically. Their real functions of transport, storage and protection are once again in the spotlight. Both associations are convinced that there can be no ecological and energy transition without plastic packaging. “Lighter and lighter, incorporating recycled or biosourced materials, recyclable, they are constantly progressing thanks to the genuine know-how of our industry”, states ELIPSO Managing Director Gael Bouquet, “Energy sobriety, green energy, security of supply of materials, eco-design of packaging, increasing use of recycled and bio-sourced materials, development of recycling channels, a clear European packaging waste regulation, these are the challenges of our time”.
Packaging industry shows attitude
“At the same time, the PackTheFuture Award is an important signal. It shows that the packaging industry is willing to take responsibility and develop solutions that meet both consumer needs and environmental and climate protection requirements”, says IK-Managing Director Mara Hancker, “The packaging is proof that plastics, innovation and sustainability go hand in hand and that the transformation of the packaging industry is already in full swing.
Strong submissions
For this 6th edition of the PackTheFuture Award, 56 packaging innovations were submitted by European companies, showing the dynamism and strong innovation capacity of the industry, ready to face not only these challenges but also to respond to climate change issues. The high quality of the entries shows the strong involvement of IK and ELIPSO members in the field of the circular economy and their commitment towards a more sustainable and responsible plastic packaging. The high number of entries (27) in the “eco-design” category shows that sustainable development issues are increasingly central to companies’ strategies.
However, the PackTheFuture Award is not only an award for sustainable packaging innovations, but also a symbol for cooperation and exchange between different European countries. IK and Elipso are working together to make the vision of a circular economy in Europe a reality.

About the PackTheFuture Award
The PackTheFuture Award, which was announced for the first time in 2014, is the result of an initiative by ELIPSO, the French association for plastic packaging and flexible packaging, and the IK Industrievereinigung Kunststoffverpackungen e.V..
The aim of the packaging award is to raise awareness of the innovation potential of plastic packaging throughout Europe. This European award offers ELIPSO and IK member companies an ideal platform to promote the sustainability of their packaging solutions. The PackTheFuture Award is a competition recognised by the prestigious World Packaging Organisation (WPO) and its winners are eligible to participate in the WorldStar Awards.
